Georg
Baselitz
Georg Baselitz was born on January 23, 1938 in the town of Kamenz,
communal community of Deutschbaselitz. From the place of his birth
comes the creative pseudonym of the artist, whose real name is
Hans-Georg Kern. The contemporary artist studied at the Higher
School of Art in East Berlin. However, in 1957, he was expelled
due to the immaturity of his political views. Georg held his first
solo exhibition in 1963. His work "Big Night in the Ditch'' drew
mixed criticism, and the German artist was accused of creative
obscenity. The most recognizable style and technique of the
artist's painting are inverted abstract figures. Georg Baselitz is
a modern abstract artist who is trying to rehabilitate this
direction of painting by introducing more recognizable figures and
images into the subjects of his works.
